What is the MacBook Keyboard Tester?
Test keyboard keys online with a responsive visual keyboard for laptops, desktops and external keyboards.
Keyboard testing tips
Test modifier keys individually and in combinations. Browser or operating-system shortcuts may intercept some keys before the webpage receives them.
Testing a MacBook or Apple keyboard in the browser
Mac keyboards use familiar letter and number keys but also include Apple-specific modifier behavior such as Command and Option. This page focuses on verifying that Safari, Chrome or another compatible browser receives those key events correctly.
For a more reliable result
- Test left and right Shift, Control, Option and Command keys separately even when the visual tester groups their active state.
- Check arrow keys and the function row, bearing in mind that macOS may map some function keys to brightness, media or system controls.
- If a shortcut triggers macOS before the webpage can receive it, test the individual keys instead of assuming the key is faulty.
- For intermittent keys, press the same key repeatedly and compare behavior across another application before deciding the keyboard needs repair.
What this test cannot confirm
Browser keyboard events cannot diagnose the butterfly/scissor mechanism, liquid damage or logic-board circuitry. They simply confirm whether a usable key event reaches the webpage.
