How to use this test
Check shadow detail, white saturation and contrast separation. Enter full-screen mode, use your normal viewing distance and inspect the whole panel. Results depend on your display, browser, scaling and room conditions.
How to use a brightness and contrast test reliably
Brightness and contrast patterns help you judge whether dark details are being crushed into black or bright details are disappearing into white. They are most useful after the display has warmed up and when automatic brightness, aggressive dynamic contrast or room-light reflections are not changing the image from moment to moment.
For a more reliable result
- Start with the display at a normal everyday brightness rather than maximum brightness.
- Use the darkest pattern to see whether near-black steps remain distinguishable without lifting true black excessively.
- Use the brightest pattern to check whether very light steps remain visible instead of merging into one white block.
- Repeat the test after changing picture modes or HDR settings so you can compare the effect of each setting.
What this test cannot confirm
This is a visual browser test. It cannot measure luminance in nits, contrast ratio or gamma accurately without a calibrated meter. If you need color-critical or production calibration, use appropriate measurement hardware and profiling software.
