Laptop Camera Test
Check the built-in camera on a laptop, MacBook or Chromebook directly in the browser.
What is the Laptop Camera Test – Check Webcam, Focus & Resolution?
Test a laptop camera or webcam online on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS or Linux. Check permission, preview, focus, color and reported resolution.
Laptop, MacBook and Chromebook cameras
Use normal room lighting, clean the lens gently and compare the preview at your usual video-call distance.
How to run this test
- Connect or enable the camera.
- Select Start camera and grant browser permission.
- Choose the correct camera from the list when more than one is available.
- Inspect focus, color, exposure, motion and the reported resolution.
For the broadest camera guidance, see the main camera and webcam tester.
How to check a laptop webcam before a call or purchase
A laptop camera test should confirm more than whether a picture appears. Check that the correct camera opens, the preview is stable, focus is acceptable at normal sitting distance and the browser reports a sensible stream resolution.
For a more reliable result
- Open the test in normal room lighting and clean the small camera lens gently if the image looks hazy.
- If the preview is black, verify the physical privacy shutter and operating-system camera permission.
- Test the built-in microphone separately because a working webcam does not guarantee that its microphone path is active.
- For used laptops, also run the keyboard, screen, speakers and touchpad/mouse tests before relying on the camera result alone.
What this test cannot confirm
Image quality is affected by lighting and processing. The page can verify browser video input but cannot certify sensor condition or manufacturer specifications.
