Speak at a normal distance and listen for clear volume, distortion, clipping, crackling, background noise and channel dropouts.
How to test a microphone without uploading your audio
The microphone tester requests permission only when you start it, then visualizes the incoming signal inside the browser. A moving level meter and waveform confirm that audio data is reaching the page; a short local recording lets you judge clarity, channel selection and obvious distortion.
For a more reliable result
- Speak at a normal distance and volume instead of shouting into the microphone.
- Try both the built-in microphone and a headset or webcam microphone when multiple devices are available in system settings.
- If the meter never moves, check browser permission, operating-system microphone privacy settings and the selected input device.
- If the meter clips at the top constantly, lower the microphone gain in the operating system or move farther from the source.
What this test cannot confirm
